RCM Piano Mock Exam Marker

Preparing for an RCM piano exam? This free RCM Piano Mock Exam Marker was created by Keynotes by Andrew to help students, parents, and teachers run more useful mock exams before exam day.

As part of my Hamilton piano lessons, I use mock exams to help students understand what is ready, what still needs work, and how it feels to play through a full Royal Conservatory-style piano exam from start to finish.

This tool is designed for RCM piano students from Preparatory A through Level 8. Select the level, enter marks as the student performs, add comments, and generate a printable mock exam report.

What is an RCM piano mock exam?

An RCM piano mock exam is a practice version of the real exam. The student plays through their repertoire, technical requirements, ear tests, and sight reading in an exam-style format.

Instead of stopping to fix mistakes during the lesson, the student performs as if they are in the exam room. Afterwards, they receive a mark breakdown and comments showing what went well and what needs more preparation.

For students taking piano lessons in Hamilton, mock exams can be a helpful way to build confidence before an official RCM exam.

How this mock exam marker works

This tool lets you choose the student’s RCM piano level and mark each part of the exam.

Depending on the level, the marker includes:

  • Repertoire
  • Memory marks
  • Etudes
  • Technical tests
  • Ear tests
  • Sight reading
  • Final comments
  • Total mark out of 100
  • Printable mock exam report

The goal is not just to calculate a score. The goal is to give students clear, practical feedback they can use in their piano practice.

Why mock exams help piano students

Many students can play well in a regular lesson, but an exam feels different. There is more pressure, less stopping, and more independence.

A mock exam helps students practise:

  • playing pieces from beginning to end
  • recovering from mistakes
  • remembering technical tests under pressure
  • switching between repertoire, technique, ear tests, and sight reading
  • understanding where marks may be lost
  • building confidence before the real exam

This is why mock exams are a regular part of my RCM piano exam preparation for students taking Hamilton piano lessons with Keynotes by Andrew.
